Lyn Vik is a Canadian artist who draws nature and wildlife in charcoal, pastel, graphite and colored pencil. Lyn began painting with acrylics and gouache in 2014 which she finds to be a wonderful challenge and is striving to learn the many skills required to master these mediums. Lyn's work has a photo-realistic quality with an emphasis on creating an emotional bond with the subject matter. The content of her work reflects the passion she has for nature and wildlife and her many outdoor hobbies allow for study and observation which translates into her paintings.
Lyn has a Biological Sciences Diploma and has worked in the Environmental sector for over 20 years. This has allowed her to partake in many wildlife studies and volunteer positions that have provided her with opportunities to observe wildlife and nature in a manner that few can claim.
In 2015, Lyn was accepted as a signature member to the Artists for Conservation organization. In February 2016, she received a Conservation Award for her “artistic excellence and outstanding contribution to the conservation cause” and was considered for the AFC top annual award.
In 2018, AFC joined forces with the International Ornithological Society and Lyn joined over 500 other member artists to create the largest installation mural in the world, featuring 678 individual paintings of endangered birds. The “Silent Skies” mural was unveiled in Vancouver in August 2018 and is currently on world tour, exhibiting in locations such as Missouri, south Florida, Arizona, Texas and overseas in China.
In 2019, Lyn illustrated her first children's book "Tuesdays with Henry" by author Marlane Pentelechuk, a wonderfully written and touching tribute to the many who struggle with Alzheimer's and dementia, and to their families who love them.
